What is the COVID-19 test kit?
So what is COVID-19?
COVID-19, the full name is Corona Virus Disease 2019.
The name COVID-19 comes from the words corona, virus, and disease, while 19 represents the year 2019 in which this disease appears. The new corona pneumonia outbreak was reported to the World Health Organization on December 31, 2019.
COVID-19 is the name of a virus in coronaviruses, which in humans is an RNA virus with a protective protein shell that is transmitted between animals and birds.
COVID-19 causes respiratory infections in humans and, in some people, can cause pneumonia and lung failure. The disease symptoms are similar to those of influenza, but the disease develops within 5-14 days of infection with the virus, unlike influenza, which creates within 2-3 days. Also, symptoms of COVID-19 can last for more than four weeks.
In an interview with Interface News during the Davos Forum in January 2020, international epidemic prevention expert Richard Hatchett said it would be inappropriate to call the ongoing epidemic in China "Wuhan pneumonia". When naming a particular outbreak, it is important not to stigmatize any specific region, country or nation.
What are the most common symptoms?
1. Increased body temperature.
2. Generalized weakness.
3. Headache.
4. Dry cough.
5. Shortness of breath.
Antibodies can be found in the blood when patients are exposed to COVID-19 within 2-3 weeks. The test recognizes IgG and IgM (immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M, two types of antibodies.) IgG remains positive, but the level of antibodies decreases over time.
The test kit contains five strips, each of which can be used at once.
The test can be for one of blood, serum or plasma.
These strips contain certain chemicals that appear as red streaks when in contact with an infected specimen.
1. a finger stick
2. centrifuge and pipette (for plasma and serum)
3. Timer
What are the steps of the blood test?
Step 1. Open the sealed bag, remove the test strip and perform the test immediately or it must be used within 1 hour.
Step 2. Place the test device on a flat, clean surface.
Step 3. Place about 5 µl of blood or serum on the test pad (purple area) and immediately add two drops (about 60 µl) of sample to the top of the test strip.
Step 4. The result data can be read within 10 minutes (will expire within 15 minutes). In case of a positive result, it can be determined within 2 minutes.
